A Craft Beer Revolution

Some of you may have seen that we have updated our beer menu. So we thought we would give you some tasting tips for our latest additions, an explanation of what craft beer is and why it's so damn good.

What is Craft Beer?

Craft beer is essentially a beer crafted by a smaller independent brewery, who produce smaller amounts of beer than large-scale corporate breweries. Craft beer makes also employ traditional brewing methods and emphasize flavour and quality. This is why craft beer generally has more flavour, and variety than standard big-brewery beers.

Welcome to our new range...

Brave - Pacific Wheat Ale - Hastings

This is Brave's lightest and most approachable style of beer, It's the ultimate match for a hot Hawke's Bay summers day. The Pacific Wheat Ale is brewed with Pilsner & Wheat malts and a neutral ale yeast for a clean finish. It's a lighter style of beer and is low on bitterness with a fresh citrus and stone fruit hop character from a blend of NZ and Pacific Northwest Hops.

Epic - Pale Ale - Auckland

Epic are obsessed with creating big hop-fulled beers, as a result of this there are 25 hops crammed into each bottle of Pale Ale. With US Cascade Hops, English Pale Ale and Crystal malts, this refreshing full-flavour beer gives the flavours and aromas of lychee, grapefruit and apricot.

Liberty Brewing Co. - Uprising - Auckland

This is what Liberty like to call a West Auckland Pale Ale. It's a no-nonsense pale ale that's fresh, savoury and brimming with a healthy bite of spring onion (not actual spring onion, we promise). The secret blend of hops creates a dry hoppy finish with clean aroma, and surprisingly big taste. There are no hints of sweet malts and Liberty has managed to capture the spirit of Westies perfectly in one tasty brew.

Panhead - Quickchange XPA - Wellington

Panhead is fast becoming on of New Zealand's favourite craft breweries, the beers we have on offer will explain why. The Quickchange XPA (Extra Pale Ale) is a product of a Quickchange's lighter malt base. That delicate colour is undercut by a glorious hit of alpha oils from Mosaic, Galaxy, and Citra hops, giving a few luscious notes of mango, guava, lychee and pineapple.

Panhead - Port Road Pils - Wellington

Pilsner's is traditionally a famously Czech beer, but Panhead have gone for a South Pacific Hop profile in keeping with the people who brew it and drink it. With this beer you'll get flavours of passionfruit, grapefruit, and Sauvignon blanc, stacked with a robust malt that is partly German, partly Kiwi.

Panhead - Supercharger APA - Wellington

Supercharger APA is where Panhead delievers the most hoppy flavours, making it one of their most popular beers. It is an all-American show with Centennial, Citra, and Simcoe hops overwhelming your nose, and kicking you in the taste buds, before departing with a delicious bitter note. It's a seriously addictive beer, that you'll be craving all summer long.

Hawke's Bay Brewing Co. - Pilsner - Hawke's Bay

This Pilsner is brewed in the traditional Czech style. Fruit and spice hop characters are dominate in the Pilsner, with a mild malt background and a crisp, clean finish. The lengthened maturation process also adds complexity to this already delicious beer.

Hawke's Bay Brewing Co. - Pilsner - Hawke's Bay

This IPA (India Pale Ale) is a full-bodied all malt brew. It has NO added sugar and an aroma of citrus and tropical fruits. The pleasant after-bitter taste is a fantastic surprise with each sip you take, and it's incredibly well balanced.

So there you have it, our new craft beers! Come in and try them for yourself and see what all the fuss is about.
